NY - SF

Screen_shot_2010-04-16_at_10

We left NY yesterday with the city being its cruel self - giving us yet another beautiful Spring day that in my opinion cannot be matched anywhere else in the world. The blue sky with crisp, fresh air. It was so seductive like a piece of chocolate that you know you shouldn't have that just draws you in.
The great thing was that when we arrived in SF, it was equally seductive with blue sky and a nice vacation warmth.

We were then treated to a lovely evening out at Fort Baker with the Cutwater guys, which included a drive across the Golden Gate Bridge and views of the city that always amaze.
I took the above picture on the right yesterday morning before leaving NY and then took the picture on the right just now out of our hotel room in SF. By chance, I think I've managed to capture the distinct personalities of the two places. Both are completely different. One is filled with textures, harsh edges, noise, life, expression all in your face; the other is filled with distant perspectives, softness, and natural elements. To compare would be foolish. They are both incredible and I feel so lucky to have this opportunity to enjoy both.

Now that Iain Tate has done the ultimate Top 10 list for his reasons to move to W+K http://bit.ly/cirhjm - which is brilliant by the way - I will have to come up with another way in.

This was a funny snap I captured outside my office in NY.

Look at the traffic.

Stumped

I'm a coffee freak for a number of reasons. First, I only drink one coffee a day. Secondly, I'm real particular about coffee roasting. Finally, I can talk about the shape of the coffee taste like it's a sound wave simply because that's the experience I get when drinking a good coffee.

So imagine how I felt when Joe's coffee decided to change its supplier of coffee from my favorite roaster Barrington Coffee to some Eco something coffee. Joe's immediately repositions itself as yet another coffee shop that delivers coffee flavor that can be best described as flat in its character and for me in its sound wave.

Fortunately, a new coffee store has opened at 29th street and Broadway at the Ace Hotel.

Stumptown coffee is a Portland based Roaster and has outlets in Seattle as well. New York is a new venture for them and it seems to be working well.

Their Cappuccino is perfect (as described by the NWTimes) and you have to try their pastry called The Conversation, which has a butterscotch topping made from butter and scotch - really.

NEW york

Wallpaper has just come out with its Design Awards 2010 and New York is #1.

I love their perspective of the city captured in this quote:

"Despite its difficult entry into the 21st century, the city that never sleeps has regrouped, found its rhythm and hit back with a rather different design agenda. Once driven by excess, New York has entered an era of austerity, yet thanks to a greater appreciation of quality over quantity, the city has never felt more compelling."

What exactly does this mean?

It's like getting focus group reactions to a decision to cross the road.

As my friend Tim would say "Come on guys".
