Two angles in

Nosaj_thing1

Two reasons to share on the theme of Nosaj Thing.

A great piece on the development of the projection mapping performance behind Nosaj Thing in Prague by The Creators Project...

Nosaj Thing vs. Aalto @ LUNCHMEAT 2010 from ...::LUNCHMEAT::... on Vimeo.

...and an excuse to promote the brilliance of KEXP out of Seattle who offer a 9:39 video of Nosaj Think performing live.

New Dance Moves

Loving the sound of Radiohead's new LP but they can't do anything wrong in my book.

I Blame Coco

It's uncanny how much Sting's daughter sounds like him on this just released black cab session http://bit.ly/dRtAIT

Based on her other releases, I'm not sure if there's enough originality or for that matter talent there to take her to the next level but this acoustic session shows promise.

One Line

(download)

I have an excuse to share a PJ Harvey video in anticipation of her forthcoming album release next week.

She never fails to surprise - making existing fans uneasy and appealing to new ones.

I love her daring approach and from what I've heard of her new album - the journey continues beautifully.

I've included a track from the new album and based on this track and others I've caught, there's a strong emphasis on sampling this time around.

David Lyre

(download)

You've probably not heard of David Lyre yet.

He's only 20yrs old, still at University and the strangest thing of all is the guy in the video is actually called Paul Dixon.

Is David Lyre a person or a band name? Who knows and perhaps who cares because the talent of this guy will reveal all soon.

Listen to the acoustic video and then I've included a remix of In Arms from his EP to be launched Feb 21.

Enjoy.

Undertow

As Warpaint tour the festivals in Australia, this song reminds me of one of my favorite Australian authors - Tim Winton.

The sound flows like sand between your toes and the video is appropriately dreamy.

Aweditorium

Screen_shot_2010-12-01_at_12

It's rare for me to propose an iPad app but this one's caught my eyes and ears this week.

Awe - is described on the apps store page as follows: Aweditorium re-imagines what a music experience feels like on iPad. It takes all of the disparate content surrounding an artist--beautiful photography, lyrics, high definition video, interviews -- and ties it all together into a fun, intimate experience on a multi-touch display.

Play around with the content and you will start to see how it assesses your likes and dislikes and works with them.

Check it out and yes it's free. Great for new artists and great for new ears.

Afro-Cubism

Nick Gold's project to bring Mali and Cuban music together finally has happened.

His original goal of getting the two nationalities together fell through leaving him only with the Cuban contingent, which didn't work out too badly for him as this created the Buena Vista Social Club, which in turn sold millions of records.

The gathering could only connect for one week in Madrid to make the recording but I can guarantee after hearing the soon to be released album, there's enough magic on this recording to ensure these guys will be touring together lots.

Here's a short film on the making.

Smiths Vocalized

Photo

After an amazing wedding this Sunday with my good friend Leigh Baker, which included great British music of our generation - it only made sense to discover this site by Janice Whaley who has taken it upon herself to create a layered vocal arrangement of every Smiths song by December 31st. Her blog http://bit.ly/c3X8oV deserves visiting anyway but the mp3s of her effort are incredible. I particularly like Heaven Knows I'm Miserable Now http://bit.ly/bC8MrF

Thanks to the Guardian newspaper for picking up on this effort.

Oliver Koletzki

I love the sound that Oliver Koletzki produces and the vocalists ain't half bad either.

I prefer Hypnotized out of these two but the video on These Habits is interesting - especially when the black shapes disintegrate.

Cool sounds for the weekend.
