Game Play

Led_chess

I want to introduce a new game concept just for the fun of it.

The task was to take a conventional game and give it a new twist.

I chose chess. Both sides play their pieces like a normal game except the pieces are all black - except for a lone white king and queen on one side of the board.

Where the game gets interesting is that once a piece crosses the center of the board, it can then be played by both players. In other words, your opponent can take ownership of your piece and send it back to attack your king.

While chess typically assumes complete loyalty, this game will introduce the concept of traitors and take on the assumption that anyone's loyalty can be bought.

Cynical yes but at least it forces us out of the comfort of the typical.

It may not spark any new ideas but who knows.

Impact Games

I don't know about you but I really struggle to learn by watching, reading or listening. In other words, I'm not a passive learner. I have to engage, dive in, and learn through experience.

I heard an interview today with Asi Burak who is the co-founder of Impact Games, who believes this is the way to learn for most people.

What's interesting about Impact Games is that they have created situations in a virtual world that we can experience, learn and apply in the real world. Some of the situations are highly complex like being a peacekeeper in the Israeli Palestinian conflict and some are intriguing (maybe silly) like having to choose between being Madonna or Guy Ritchie in their divorce battle. A recent addition is a very culturally pertinent challenge - a Myspace suicide trial - where you have to be a Federal Juror in the trial to decide whether two girls had caused the suicide of another teen through Myspace bullying. I'll leave it to the other co-founder to tell the story behind PeaceMaker in the video below:
