Clean Art Planet

Photo

It's rare to be surprised in hotels but last night I stayed in the
Westin, just off Place Vendome and found this great art exhibit in the
lobby. It's called the Clean Art Project and all the pixels are made
up of objects found in the oceans across the world.

They retrieve non-decaying plastics from the oceans and make art from
them. Check out their site cleanartplanet.com

Watch the Polar Bears

Media_httpwwwactionbioscienceorgbiodiversityfiguresderocher2jpg_zcgcgqmajxyrqte

"Loss of sea ice is similar to deforestation of tropical rain forests: lose the habitat and, with few exceptions, you lose the species."

This quote from an interesting article of a year ago captured the importance of Copenhagen for me. http://bit.ly/7HB2z9

I was reminded of the Polar Bear plight by the China Daily today.

Jute Scoop

Img_2682

A very NY reference but one that excited me today.

Yes it's sad that I've just got back to NY today and I already have a Scoop experience but this is a good one.

Scoop has always had cool brightly colored bags they use to put your goods in - they add a delight to the experience when you shop there.

At first, I would always take the bag but after a while I got sick of those bags because of their complete disregard for the environment and this was heightened by a kind of toxic smell that emanated from them.

Today, they offered me this bag that is made from jute, uses water based inks and is 100% biodegradable.

Progress - let's hope it's not just a Copenhagen initiative.

Audi e-tron

Media_httpwwwtimesonlinecoukmultimediaarchive00658ingear658104ajpg_fkebeaybdkdhrec

With a separate motor to drive each wheel, you know it's Audi thinking but when you hear that this is an electric car that will do 0-60 in less than 5 seconds and will be available in 2012, that's a big sign that electric is happening.

http://bit.ly/4zAwFr

Carlos Ghosn has made some very ambitious electric goals too across Renault - Nissan. At the heart of his ambitions is to make sure these brands don't ask consumers to pay any more for electric over gas. 2012 is also his target date.

Audi's not promising to democratize electric just yet but it sure is presenting electric in a very desirable package.

Audi states that they expect to produce 1,000 e-trons and they will cost more than the R8. Even with a 6 figure price point, Audi expects to lose money but they see this as being a branding investment and probably a stake in the ground for their own organization to put electric front and center of their thinking.

While the last 10 years were obsessed with our close and personal relationship to technology primarily through keyboards; the next 10 feel like technology will be released in to all areas of our lives and we will live through it.

How frigging cool is that?
