Ma of Alibaba

Jack Ma is clearly a guy to watch in global business.

He's the founder and chairman of alibaba.com - the google of China.

He started taobao.com - an auction site that put eBay out of business in China.

The list of successes goes on and many business magazines are featuring him right now, so a quick search on google or alibaba will give you lots of background on the guy.

However, I wanted to share a quote I read of his from a letter he sent his employees that for me reiterates the drive to 'being' versus 'having' as a global trend.

"If you have money, but have not turned this money into an experience to elevate your own or other people's level of happiness, then you may very well possess a lot of symbols and a mountain of very colorful paper."

It's not a Setback. It's a Test

Tiger-wood-accenture-ad1

Just too ironic...

"Woods never seemed warm or even especially personable. Instead, he seemed resolutely businesslike. Woods’s appeal was based, ultimately, not on his physical abilities but on his mental toughness, his extraordinary capacity for focus and discipline."

This is a quote from an interesting article in the New Yorker today that makes Accenture's decision to ditch Tiger seem like the only choice for them.

My initial reaction to Accenture's decision was that maybe they should not have built their brand so tightly on an endorsement but this article helped me to understand that it made sense and it now makes sense for them to part.

I sure hope they develop a campaign now that feels less lazy.
