Startup Visa
I've been reading about the startup visa project, which has created a movement to assist immigrants, who have an entrepreneurial bent, to get the open arms treatment from US immigration.
It has even resulted in John Kerry proposing a startup visa act that assists this objective - here's some language related to this act:
The Startup Visa Act proposes legislation to modify the existing EB-5 Visa in order to drive job creation in the US and increase American global competitiveness. This would enable immigrant entrepreneurs who are creating new companies to secure visas to come to the United States, if there is investment capital available from a sponsoring US venture capital or angel investor of at least $100,000 in an equity financing of not less than $250,000.
This makes complete sense and I would go as far as to say that America was built and became successful based on appealing to this driven crowd and making it easy for them to succeed here.
Yet as this piece by Scobleizer suggests, it is getting harder not easier for this crowd to live and work in America http://bit.ly/9VY0Vi
Ironically as this piece states, it's easy if you are brilliant to get a free education here but if you then want to stay afterwards to apply that education to a business, then you are out of luck.
I agree that there needs to be parameters to the facilitation and selection of visa applicants and Kerry's bill goes a long way to a recommended approach.
Hopefully this will get more press coverage in the coming months.
