Boring

Seesaw

It obvious in math that two pluses multiplied together make a positive but I always thought it was odd in math that minus times minus equalled a positive.

However, I have learnt that this logic makes sense in life. Invariably, two divergent views on a solution when forced to work together create a positive solution.

Based on this logic, having different political parties should be a good thing because politics should force divergent opinions to battle it out with each other.

So it should be no surprise to anyone that I'm concerned with the recent government election results in Belgium, the UK and now Australia. How many hung parliaments can exist before we realize that no one is offering different opinions out there? At least no one of any substantial authority.

I worry that we are fast becoming a world where debate and opposing views are being flatlined.

Is it because of a desire to appeal to voters that the promise starts to merge across the parties and therefore it's hard for individuals to choose?

Is it because politicians are now being guided by focus groups to a point where the groups are dictating the policies - yes even that incredible American President Obama used more focus groups than any previous Presidential candidate?

Who knows but I do worry about a flatlined world. And it doesn't seem to stop at politics. What's with the tennis match at Wimbledon that was the longest in history? That wasn't amazing - that to me was scary because it was a sign that everything is getting equalized.

All I can say to conclude this thought is thank goodness for the technological revolution we are experiencing right now because it's defining a new evolutionary path for us that will change our brains, our world and everything in-between. Nothing equalized about that.
